Your monitor, finally on your keyboard.

macOS can’t change the brightness of most external displays. MyMonitor can, from the menu bar and the brightness keys you already use.

Software dimming

Drag the first slider to dim this screen. The link icon moves both together.

Your brightness keys stop at the edge of your MacBook. The monitor next to it sits at full blast all evening.

The brightness controls macOS left out.

MyMonitor talks to your monitor the way its own buttons do, and quietly falls back to software when it can’t.

Real hardware brightness

It changes the monitor’s own backlight over DDC, the same signal its buttons send. No washed-out overlay, no lost contrast.

Your brightness keys

The keys you already press now move the display under your pointer. Your Mac’s own screen works as always.

Every display gets a slider

TVs and displays without DDC are dimmed in software instead, so nothing is left at full blast.

Dimmer than dim

Go below the monitor’s lowest setting for late nights in a dark room.

Linked or separate

Move every display together with one slider, or give each one its own level.

Questions

Will it work with my monitor?

Most monitors connected over USB-C, Thunderbolt, or DisplayPort accept hardware brightness (DDC). Some HDMI ports, docks, and TVs don’t; MyMonitor dims those in software instead, so every display gets a slider. The 1-day trial is the easiest way to find out.

Does it work with Apple’s Studio Display or Pro Display XDR?

Those already work with macOS’s own brightness keys. MyMonitor is for everything else.

Why install from Terminal?

MyMonitor is an indie app that isn’t notarized by Apple, so a plain download would be blocked. The installer checks the download’s checksum and signature first. You can read the script.

Why does it ask for Accessibility?

Only for the brightness keys: macOS requires it to see those key presses. Skip it and everything else still works. More

What happens after the trial?

The sliders lock until you buy, and any software dimming is lifted so your screens are never stuck dark. Your settings stay put.

Does it collect any data?

No. No account, no analytics. The license check sends your key and a one-way hash of your Mac’s ID, nothing else. Privacy policy

Lost your key, or got a new Mac?

Get your key emailed again. One key works on one Mac at a time, and I’ll move it to your new one.
