How can I help?

Quick fixes for the common snags. If yours isn’t here, email kartik@kartikkabadi.com with your monitor model, how it’s connected, and what you saw. MyMonitor’s ··· › Diagnostics has a report you can copy into the email.

Lost your license key?

Enter the email you used at checkout and we’ll send your key again.

You can also find it in Whop › Orders after signing in with the same email.

Installing

How do I install MyMonitor?

Copy this line. Open Terminal (press ⌘Space, type “Terminal”, press Return), paste it with ⌘V, and press Return. It won’t ask for your password.

curl -fsSL https://mymonitor.kartikkabadi.com/install.sh | bash

It installs into ~/Applications and opens the app. Run the same line again any time to reinstall. MyMonitor needs macOS 14 or later on an Apple silicon Mac.

“MyMonitor can’t be opened” or “is damaged”

That happens when the app is downloaded through a browser instead of the installer. MyMonitor isn’t notarized by Apple, so macOS blocks browser downloads. Delete that copy and use the Terminal line above; it verifies the download and lets macOS open it.

I don’t see the display icon in my menu bar

If your menu bar is full, macOS hides icons behind the notch. Quit an app or two, or use a menu bar manager to reveal it.

Trial

How does the free trial work?

The first time MyMonitor opens, it starts a 1-day trial for your Mac. It needs the internet once for that. Everything works during the trial. After it ends, the sliders and keys lock until you buy, and any software dimming is lifted so no screen stays dark.

Can I restart the trial?

No. The trial is tied to your Mac, so reinstalling doesn’t reset it. Need more time to test a monitor? Email me.

Activating

Where do I enter my key?

Click the display icon, then the gear, and paste the key under License. The Activate button in your welcome email does it in one click.

“This key is active on another Mac”

One key works on one Mac. Got a new Mac, or reinstalled macOS? Email me from the address you bought with and I’ll move it.

“That key wasn’t recognised”

Copy the key again with the Copy button in your email. If it was refunded or charged back, it no longer activates.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After activating, MyMonitor renews its license in the background and keeps working for up to two weeks without a connection.

Brightness keys

Why does it need Accessibility?

macOS only lets an app see the brightness keys with the Accessibility permission. MyMonitor uses it for those two keys and nothing else. Without it, the menu bar sliders and shortcuts still work.

The keys still change my MacBook’s screen

The keys change the display under your pointer. Move the pointer onto the external display first. To have them move every external display at once, open Settings › Keyboard › Keys adjust.

The keys stopped working

Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility, turn MyMonitor off and on again. If it isn’t listed, run this in Terminal and allow it again from MyMonitor’s Settings:

tccutil reset Accessibility com.mymonitor.MyMonitor

Displays

My monitor says “Software control”

The monitor, cable, or dock didn’t answer DDC, so MyMonitor dims the picture instead of the backlight. Try a direct USB-C or DisplayPort cable, and check that DDC/CI is on in the monitor’s own menu. Then choose Retry in Diagnostics.

The slider moves, but the screen doesn’t change

Some monitors lock brightness in certain picture modes (often HDR or “Dynamic”). Switch to a standard mode in the monitor’s menu. If it still doesn’t respond, send me the Diagnostics report.

Uninstalling

How do I remove MyMonitor completely?

Quit MyMonitor, then run:

rm -rf ~/Applications/MyMonitor.app ~/Library/Application\ Support/MyMonitor; defaults delete com.mymonitor.MyMonitor
